I am an American and I live in Jordan. When I first came to Jordan I looked for a cookbook on how to cook the many delicious foods of the area, but I could find none. Luckily there were alot of wonderful people who cared and taught me.This book is about my travels in the region and about how I learned to cook the favorite foods, such as stuffed grape leaves, maglooba, mansef and the many, many desserts. There are recipes for making homemade yogurt, zatar bread, soups of every kind, tabouleh, spinach salad and more.
There are over 55 recipes in this book and more than 55 pages stuffed full of my personal favorites. All the recipes are in easy to understand English and they are all available to you right now. See the full of list of recipes: HERE Jordanians cook one pot meals or one platter meals. There is always meat of some kind, rice and lots of freshly baked breads. A simple tomato and cucumber salad is also served with most meals. You will find that if special guests are coming that lamb will be served and if it is family, well then you may see lamb, but normally you will see chicken. Men here will be angry to sit down on Friday, our religious day and not have some sort of huge meal with meat. Hot tea is always served after the meal with some sweets or fruit. |
